First Friday Roundtable to focus on mentoring undergraduate researchers

12:06 p.m., Nov. 18, 2013--The First Friday Roundtable on Teaching series, a collaborative University of Delaware program aimed at highlighting varied approaches of teaching, learning and assessment practices, will hold its culminating session of the fall semester on Dec. 6.

The roundtable session, titled “Mentoring Undergraduate Scholars Across the Disciplines,” will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. in 410 Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory (ISE Lab). The location is a change so that participants can enjoy a holiday reception after the session.

June 6: UDid It! Picnic

All UD faculty and staff members are invited to attend the annual UDid It! employee appreciation picnic, set from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, on The Green.

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

During the December event, participants will engage with exemplary mentors, undergraduate research students and each other to process real world case studies in multiple disciplinary areas.

Participants will leave with experience in how to establish mutually beneficial mentoring experiences for diverse students.

All UD faculty, staff, and graduate students are welcome. Registration can be found online.

The First Friday Roundtables are designed and sponsored through a collaboration between Academic Technology Services, the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning, and the Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education

To best provide realistic case studies and advise on mentoring, attendees will find support from the Office of Undergraduate Research and Experiential Learning, staff from which served as consultants for this session.

During Winter Session, all are invited to the Winter Faculty Institute on Jan. 9, 2014.

Bob Gonyea of the National Survey of Student Engagement will provide a plenary session along with hands-on workshops. Those who plan to attend can register by clicking here.

The following Roundtable events are scheduled during the spring 2014 semester from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Note that the locations may change.

  • March 7 – “Creating Writing Assignments that Increase Student Engagement,” 208 Gore Hall.
  • April 4 – “Documenting Teaching Excellence,” 208 Gore Hall.
  • May 2 – “The Unconference” with reception, 116 Pearson Hall.
