UD Collegiate Figure Skating Team brings home gold

9:56 a.m., Nov. 20, 2013--The University of Delaware Collegiate Figure Skating Team (UDFS) finished first out of 20 schools that competed in the Cornell University Intercollegiate Competition held Nov. 16-17 in Ithaca, N.Y.

The team scored 134 points, placing it 25 points above the second place team from Boston University, which earned 109 points. The third place team, Dartmouth College, had 99 points.

Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

The winning score led UDFS to set a new record for the most points earned by a team at an intercollegiate competition, according to all available records from U.S. Figure Skating.

“The support our team has felt the past few weeks from friends, family, and the UD community made all the difference,” said UDFS President Dana Sivak. “We have so much to be proud of. From the first event to the last, the determination and desire to achieve success was unwavering. In preparation for the next competition, we hope to use this confidence as we continue to strive for excellence.”

The team continues its season March 1-2, 2014, when it will travel to Lynchburg, Va., to compete in the Liberty University Intercollegiate Competition.

Kathleen Criss: 2nd junior championship, 4th gold dance.

Laura Gettier: 2nd juvenile freeskate, 5th international dance, 1st low team maneuvers.

Kyle Herring: 3rd junior men short, 3rd junior championship men freeskate, 2nd international dance, 2nd gold dance, 1st high team maneuvers.

Cassandra Jeandell: 1st low team maneuvers.

Jonathan Jerothe: 4th junior men short, 1st junior championship men freeskate.

Elizabeth Kalbach: 2nd novice ladies short, 2nd novice ladies freeskate.

Brogan Kavanagh: 1st senior ladies freeskate, 3rd preliminary dance, 1st high team maneuvers.

Christie Kievit: 2nd junior ladies short, 1st junior championship ladies freeskate.

Hannah Kimberly: 2nd senior ladies freeskate, 2nd intermediate dance, 1st high team maneuvers.

Bryan Schaeffer: 2nd pre-juvenile men freeskate.

Shaun Schaeffer: 1st pre-juvenile men freeskate, 2nd senior dance.

Clara Sherman: 4th intermediate ladies short, 1st intermediate ladies freeskate, 5th juvenile dance, 2nd preliminary dance.

Dana Sivak: 2nd senior ladies short, 1st senior championship ladies freeskate, 1st high team maneuvers.

Jessica Sugarman: 1st junior ladies freeskate, 1st junior dance.

Courtney Taylor: 1st senior ladies short, 3rd senior championship ladies freeskate, 1st high team maneuvers.
