Blue Hens invited to cheer along the riverfront and in the bleachers

10:01 a.m., May 2, 2014--There will be activities on the riverfront and in the bleachers for University of Delaware alumni this month, as Blue Hens are invited to the fabled Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia and to ballparks across the country for the annual baseball series.

The storied Dad Vail Regatta will be held Saturday, May 10, and will feature a UD Alumni Tent where Hens can get together to cheer on the men’s and women’s rowing teams.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Alumni can also enjoy Major League Baseball action at ballparks in Philadelphia, Chicago and Washington, D.C., as part of the Alumni Baseball Series.

Monday, May 5, 5:30 p.m.: Alumni Baseball Series/Philadelphia. Blue Hens are invited to watch as the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Monday, May 5, 5:45 p.m.: New York Dare to Care. The New York City Alumni Club will participate in a City Harvest event to “rescue” produce donations at the close of the Union Square Greenmarket. The produce will be distributed to emergency food programs throughout the city.

Wednesday, May 7, 6:30 p.m.: Art History Graduate Student Lecture Series. Alumni are invited to the Wayne Craven Lecture, as S. Hollis Clayson of Northwestern University speaks on “Episodes from the Visual Culture of Electric Paris.”

Thursday, May 8, noon: Alumni Webinar Series. Anne Giacoma Barretta, a 1983 UD graduate and adjunct professor in the Department of Communications at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, will be featured in an Alumni Webinar Series presentation. She will speak on “The R’s and C’s of Professional Tweeting: How College Students Teach Instructors in Social Media.”

Thursday, May 8, 6 p.m.: Lancaster happy hour. Alumni will meet for happy hour at the Lancaster Brewing Company.

Friday, May 9, 9 a.m.: Sigma Phi Epsilon. The brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon will hold a golf outing and lunch at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark.

Saturday, May 10, 6:30 p.m.: Dad Vail Regatta. The UD Men’s Crew Alumni Association will host fellow Blue Hens at a special tent at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.

Thursday, May 15, 5 p.m. San Diego happy hour. Southern California Blue Hens will gather for happy hour at Tower 23 in Pacific Beach.

Thursday, May 15, 7:15 p.m.: NYC spin night. The New York City Alumni Club will offer spin night at FlyWheel on the Upper West Side.

Saturday, May 17, 9 a.m.: Baltimore Dare to Care. Alumni are invited to participate in a Dare to Care event at the Real Food Farm, one of Baltimore’s only urban farms.

Saturday, May 17, 10:30 a.m.: Kent and Sussex Dare to Care. The Kent and Sussex Alumni Club will host a Dare to Care event at the Delaware Seashore State Park, just south of Dewey Beach, where volunteers will help collect trash.

Saturday, May 17, 1 p.m. New Castle County family bowling. Blue Hens will gather at AMF Prices Lanes on Kirkwood Highway for an afternoon of family bowling.

Saturday, May 17, 2 p.m.: Alumni Baseball Series/Washington, D.C. Blue Hens are invited to enjoy professional baseball at Nationals Ballpark as the Nationals host the New York Mets. There will be a pregame reception at the Half Street Fairgrounds.

Tuesday, May 20, 5 p.m.: Alumni Baseball Series/Chicago. Alumni can enjoy a game between two historic teams in a classic venue as the Chicago Cubs host the New York Yankees at Wrigley Field. There will be a pregame buffet at Rockit Burger.

Friday, June 6, 7 a.m.: Seattle Dela-bration Nation party. Participating in UD Alumni Weekend from afar, Seattle alumni will hold a Northwest Dela-bration at the Rock Bottom Brewery.

June 6-8: Alumni Weekend.
