UD Collegiate Figure Skating Team takes gold in Liberty competition

9:32 a.m., March 4, 2014--The University of Delaware Collegiate Figure Skating Team (UDFS) finished first out of 16 schools in the Liberty University Intercollegiate Competition held Feb. 28-March 2 at the LaHaye Ice Center in Lynchburg, Va.

UDFS team members competed in a total of 24 different events and earned 141 points throughout the weekend, breaking the record for the most points earned by a team at an intercollegiate competition by seven points.

Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

This score put them 36 points ahead of their closest competitor, Dartmouth College, which placed second with 105 points. Boston University came in third place with 103 points.

“Coming off of a fantastic win at Cornell really helped motivate our team to do the same here (at Liberty),” UDFS President Dana Sivak, said of the team’s win. “We all came together to skate our best and worked hard to bring home another win for UD.”

Looking ahead toward the next competition, Sivak said, “We plan to carry this momentum with us as we prepare for the UD competition and to continue to train hard. We look forward to skating in front of our family and friends in a few weeks on home ice.”

The intercollegiate figure skating season continues March 22-23 when UD hosts the University of Delaware Intercollegiate Figure Skating Competition at the Fred Rust Ice Arena on South Campus.

Kathleen Criss: 1st place, Junior Ladies Freeskate; 3rd place, Gold Solo Dance.

Laura Gettier: 4th place, International Solo Dance; 1st place, Juvenile Ladies Freeskate; 1st place, Low Team Maneuvers.

Kyle Herring: 2nd place, Gold Solo Dance; 2nd place, International Solo Dance; 3rd place, Junior Men Short Program; 4th place, Junior Men Championship Freeskate; 3rd place, High Team Maneuvers.

Cassandra Jeandell: 1st place, Senior Solo Dance; 1st place, Low Team Maneuvers.

Jonathan Jerothe: 1st place, Junior Men Short Program; 2nd place, Junior Men Championship Freeskate.

Beth Kalbach: 1st place, Novice Ladies Short Program; 3rd place, Novice Ladies Freeskate.

Christie Kievit: 3rd place, Junior Ladies Short Program; 5th place, Junior Ladies Championship Freeskate.
