Two public relations professionals, who first worked together to create a marketing communications plan as undergraduates in a UD Department of Communication course, have received a prestigious Silver Anvil award from the Public Relations Society of America for the best healthcare marketing program of the year. Both 1988 alumnae, Grace Thompson Leong, president and co-owner of Hunter Public Relations in New York, and Sheri Keiles, director of communications for McNeil Consumer Healthcare in Fort Washington, Pa., received the award for a campaign they designed for the Zyrtec brand. "While it may have taken some time to pick up the public relations industry's top honor for programming excellence, it was well worth the wait because we were able to do it together," Leong wrote in a note to Carolyn Bartoo, instructor in communication. "The power of two UD [communication] majors is an unstoppable force!" Bartoo compared the Silver Anvil to winning an Oscar, calling it "the pinnacle of professional achievement, especially since it's judged by very accomplished professionals."

The UD figure skating program was featured in two articles in the June/July 2014 issue of U.S. Figure Skating’s Skating magazine. The UD Intercollegiate Figure Skating team was featured on pages 22-23 for winning the national championship and the UD Synchronized Skating Team was featured on page 54 for its Play Synchro recruitment program. The article was prepared by the team’s Megan O’Donnell and Wendy Deppe and cited Angie Cardello, program coordinator at the UD Ice Arena.
