Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Presentations

James M. Brophy, Francis H. Squire Professor of History, presented Ironic Sensation: Popular Print Culture and Modern Political Subjectivity” for the international workshop, "Sensationalism and the Genealogy of Modernity," Tel Aviv University, Israel, Dec. 18-20, 2013.

Publications

Leslie F. Goldstein, Judge Hugh M. Morris Professor of Political Science Emerita, has three recent publications. “How Equal Protection Did and Did Not Come to the United States, and the Executive Branch Role Therein” was published in the University of Maryland Law Review 73, No.1 (December 2013): 190-226. “Original Meaning, Precedent, and Popular Sovereignty?: Whittington et al. v. Lincoln et al.,” was published in the Fordham Law Review, 82(2) (November 2013): 783-802, and a review of The Political Thought of Frederick Douglass: In Pursuit of America Liberty, by Nicholas Buccola, was published in American Political Thought, Vol.2, No.2 (Fall 2013): 328-321.

Rudi Matthee, John and Dorothy Munroe Distinguished Professor of History, published “Loyalty, Betrayal, and Retribution: Biktash Khan, Ya`qub Khan, and Shah `Abbas I’s Strategy in Establishing Control over Kirman, Yazd and Fars,” in R. Hillenbrand, A.C.S. Peacock and F.I. Abdullaeva, eds., Ferdowsi, the Mongols and the History of Iran: Art, Literature and Culture from Early Islam to Qajar Persia (London: I.B. Tauris), 184-200.

Recognition

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair of Corporate Governance and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was mentioned in Global Proxywatch, the newsletter of International Corporate Governance and Shareowner Value, as one of the “Stars 2013,” a selection of 10 individuals from around the world who had an impact on corporate governance in the previous year.
