From November through December 2013, the Centers for Disease Control received a number of reports of severe respiratory illness among young and middle-aged adults, many of whom were infected with influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 (pH1N1) virus.

The H1N1 strain is covered by the flu vaccine available this year.

On campus, Student Health Services has flu vaccine available, and appointments may be scheduled by calling 302-831-2226. Forms can be completed in advance online. The cost of the vaccine is $16, which will be billed to the student's account. SHS is located in Laurel Hall, on the South Green.

“Please allow at least 30 minutes total in your schedule to receive the vaccine and the 20 minutes that SHS requests you stay after the injection,” said Dr. Timothy Dowling, physician and SHS director. “Also, make sure you have had something to eat that day before you come in to receive the vaccination.”
