UD officials set emergency response exercise


12:06 p.m., Jan. 17, 2014--Ways to deal with an emergency situation at the University of Delaware will be the focus of special exercise scheduled on the campus on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Administrators from a wide variety of campus units -- as well as representatives from the state, New Castle County, the city of Newark, and Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company -- will work together to respond to a virtual crisis affecting UD.

All UD faculty and staff members are invited to attend the annual UDid It! employee appreciation picnic, set from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, on The Green.

2FA protects you

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

"The safety and security of our campus community are top priorities," said Albert "Skip" Homiak Jr., executive director of campus and public safety. "The exercise lets us gather together all the appropriate personnel for a practice run so that we can be better prepared if a real emergency arises.

"We have conducted such exercises regularly for the past several years, and they have been extremely helpful in defining the roles for different units and practicing our emergency response procedures," he said.

Activities are confined to the meeting room; there will be no actual emergency response units in action on the campus for the exercise.
