UD Air Force ROTC cadets judge high school drill competition

12:19 p.m., Feb. 14, 2014--At the beginning of the month, University of Delaware Air Force ROTC cadets from Detachment 128 judged their second drill competition of the semester.

The event was held at Glasgow High School, where 300 JROTC cadets and more than 200 spectators attended.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

The Air Force ROTC cadets at the University are dedicated and motivated to increase the interest of the armed forces and the continuing of their education in college, according to a representative of the detachment, who said “the competition was intense and the cadets love to judge and willingly donate their time.”

There were 14 schools in attendance and the JROTC members competed in 11 different competitions. 

The schools were divided into smaller and larger groups to even out the competition playing field. The competitions were held in the following categories: armed regulation, armed exhibition, armed inspection, armed two person, armed color guard, Aca challenge, unarmed regulation, unarmed exhibition, unarmed inspection, unarmed two person and unarmed color guard.

The overall small school winners were: Arlington, first place; Christiana, second place; and Vineland, third place.

The larger school winners were: Surrattsville, first place; William Penn, second place; and Bridgeton, third place.

“Overall, all schools did a great job and the volunteers at University of Delaware Detachment 128th Cadet Wing are looking to help make the next generation brighter,” a detachment representative said.
