Parking regulations clarified, changed in response to campus survey
7:34 a.m., Feb. 11, 2014--University of Delaware Parking Services recently completed a review of responses from a parking survey taken by members of the campus community.
Parking Services officials noted that several of the recommendations from staff and students are things that are already offered but that may not be well known.

Those include the following:
- Current permit holders can request access via their UD ID card from 5:45 p.m.-2 a.m. Monday through Friday, and all day on weekends and holidays, to the following gated lots -- 37C Amstel Gate, 34C Library Gate and 53C Haines Street Gate.
- Any valid permit (including resident student permits) can be used to park in Central, Gray or Gold lots after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays.
- Resident student permits are valid in lots 1, 88, and 106 on South Campus in addition to their assigned lot.
- Parking Services provides a customer assistance program that includes free vehicle jump starts, lock-out service, tire inflation and emergency fuel transportation to vehicle operators on campus.
In response to the survey, parking meter time limits have been lifted. In the past, centrally located parking meters were limited to two hours and perimeter meters near residence halls were limited to four hours. A new rate structure has been created which removes the time limit.
The first time increment for weekdays has not changed.
Centrally located meters on weekdays:
Up to two hours, $1.50 per hour (no change), 10 minutes per quarter.
Up to four hours, $2 per hour, 8 minutes per quarter.
4-24 hours, $3 per hour with a daily maximum of $15, 5 minutes per quarter with a maximum of $15.
Perimeter residence hall meters on weekdays:
Up to four hours, $1.50 per hour (no change), 10 minutes per quarter.
4-24 hours, $2 per hour with a daily maximum of $15, 8 minutes per quarter.
Weekend rate, all meters:
$1 per hour with a daily maximum of $8, 15 minutes per quarter.
Parking Services staff reminds customers who need to park for the day that buying a permit is more cost effective than parking by the hour.
