11:23 a.m., Dec. 18, 2013--The winter holiday break at the University of Delaware has begun for students, who had their last final examinations on Friday, Dec. 13.

Classes will resume Monday, Jan. 6, with the beginning of Winter Session.

2FA protects you

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

University offices will close from Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Wednesday, Jan. 1, reopening Thursday, Jan. 2.

Library hours

The University of Delaware Library has announced the Morris Library will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through Friday, Dec. 20, and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 23. 

The Morris Library will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Wednesday, Jan. 1, and will reopen Thursday, Jan. 2, following the University calendar.

The Chemistry Library, the Marine Studies Library and the Physics Library will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through Friday, Dec. 20, and from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 23. They will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Wednesday, Jan. 1, and will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The electronic library of the University of Delaware Library, which is available 24/7, provides access for faculty, students and staff to a rich array of online library resources including DELCAT, WorldCat Local, numerous databases, full-text information, eJournals, eNewspapers, eBooks, Research Guides, the Institutional Repository and much more. A mobile-friendly version of the University of Delaware Library web page is also available.

Athletics

The Bob Carpenter Center will host two basketball games during the break. The UD women’s basketball team will face St. John’s University at 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 30. The UD men’s basketball team will host Liberty University at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Bookstore

The Barnes and Noble UD Bookstore will be open from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. through Saturday, Dec. 21; from noon-6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22, through Monday, Dec. 23; and from noon -5 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 24. It will be closed on Christmas Day.

The bookstore will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 28; from noon-6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 29; and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday, Dec. 30. 

Hours on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31, will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. It will be closed New Year’s Day. 

The bookstore will open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, through Saturday, Jan. 4; from noon-6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 5; and from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 6 and 7.

Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 8, through Saturday, Feb. 8, hours are from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, and noon-6 p.m., Sundays. 

The Blue Hen Café follows the same holiday and Winter Session hours as the bookstore. 

The Apple Authorized Campus Store on the second floor of the facility will be open the same hours as the bookstore. 

Campus Mail Services

Campus Mail Services will offer reduced services on Monday, Dec. 23, announcing that:

  • There will be no scheduled afternoon pickup at white campus mailboxes that day.
  • Any campus office that will be closed should contact Campus Mail to hold delivery.
  • If you require a large pick up of mail before 2:30 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 23, please contact Campus Mail by noon.

Development Office

For the convenience of donors who wish to make a contribution, the Office of University Development can be reached at 302-831-2104 and will be staffed from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 27, and Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 30-31. Gifts may also be made online at any time by visiting www.udel.edu/makeagift.

Ice arenas

UD Ice Arenas will hold holiday skating sessions at the Fred Rust Ice Arena from 1-3:15 p.m., 4-6 p.m., and 7:30-9:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21; from 1-3:15 p.m., 4-6 p.m., and 7:30-9:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 22; from 1-3:15 p.m. and 7:30-9:30 p.m., Monday, Dec.23; and from 1-3:15, Tuesday, Dec. 24. 

The arena will be closed for Christmas, Wednesday, Dec. 25.

For Thursday and Friday, Dec. 26-27, the arena will be open for public skating sessions from 1-3:15 p.m. There will be a live WJBR-FM remote broadcast during the 1-3:15 session on Dec. 27. 

Hours for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 28-29, are 1-3:15 p.m., 4-6 p.m., and 7:30-9:30 pm; and on Monday, Dec. 30, hours are from 1-3:15 p.m. and 7:30-9:30. 

The arena will be open from 1-3:15 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, and from 1-4 p.m., New Year’s Day, Jan. 1. 

Parking Services

Parking Services has announced that it will be closing at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 23, for the holiday break. All online services will be available.

Residence halls, dining  

Residence halls closed at 10 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13.

Residence halls will reopen for Winter Session with check-in from 2-9 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 5. The first meal in dining halls will be dinner that day.

UDairy Creamery

UDairy Creamery will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, until Wednesday, Jan. 1, reopening at 9 a.m., on Thursday, Jan. 2. 

Until Dec. 24, hours are 9 a.m.-8 p.m., weekdays, and 11 a.m.-8 p.m., weekends.
