UD staff volunteer to wrap holiday gifts for Children at Exceptional Care
3:54 p.m., Dec. 13, 2013--The University of Delaware’s 2013 United Way employee campaign participated in a “Days of Caring” project on Thursday, Dec. 12, with UD staff working at Exceptional Care for Children (ECC), a United Way agency that is Delaware’s only 24-hour skilled pediatric nursing facility.
UD volunteers were given the task of wrapping holiday gifts and decorating for the children. Afterward, they were shown a video detailing the lives of three of the children who call Exceptional Care home and were given a tour of the facility.

"It was an amazing event for all involved, and the children will be so excited when they open their gifts," said Michele Jones of UD's United Way campaign. "This type of activity really touches a person’s heart, knowing that you have helped to give these children some joy during the holidays."
About ECC
Since opening its doors in 2006, ECC has been delivering a new and innovative model of care to children who are medically fragile and have technology dependencies. This facility is home to 31 children who otherwise would have to live in a hospital. The children range in age from 2 months to 19, and each child is provided with his or her own room. The staff and volunteers provide these special children with an atmosphere as close to a home environment as possible. Some children transition and are able to return home while others do not.
