About the ensembles

The UD Chorale is among the most highly regarded college choirs in the eastern United States. In recent years, the choir has been invited to perform at both regional (Pittsburgh, 2002, and Hartford, 2008) and national (Los Angeles, 2005, and Dallas, 2013) conventions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). Members have also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and Verizon Hall in Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for the Arts.

In addition to annual regional tours, the UD Chorale has traveled extensively throughout Europe with appearances in Scotland, Wales, France, Germany, Austria, Finland, Spain and Estonia. In 2012, the chorale won silver in the prestigious “grand prix” round of competition in the Béla Bartók International Choir Competition in Hungary.

University Singers, directed by Duane Cottrell, is an advanced ensemble of women's voices for music majors and other University treble voices with significant musical background and sight–reading skills.

Concert Choir, also directed by Cottrell, is a mixed chorus dedicated to the artistic performance of great choral works from the Renaissance to the present. Emphasis is also given to the development of sight reading skills and voice production as related to choral singing.

Schola Cantorum, directed by Thomas Sabatino, is a town and gown ensemble -- a large chorus of University students, faculty and staff, along with members of the local community. This choir specializes in extended works, frequently accompanied by full orchestra. Participants are expected to have had significant previous choral experience, along with excellent sight-reading skills. Admission is open to all University students and community members via audition.
