UD Public Safety participates in CALEA assessment
2:34 p.m., Aug. 21, 2013--The University of Delaware Department of Public Safety is participating in an assessment administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).
The Department of Public Safety was originally accredited in November 2007 and was reaccredited in 2010. The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support service. A CALEA assessment team will arrive on Sunday, Aug. 25, and spend the next couple of days examining the University's Department of Public Safety’s compliance with the prescribed standards.

The CALEA assessors are David Hobson, Eastern Kentucky University (retired), and Cap. Tim Potts, Purdue University Police Department. Once the assessors complete their review of our agency, they report back to the full commission, which will then determine if the agency is to be granted re-accredited status.
As part of the on site assessment, the agency personnel and the public are invited to comment on the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards at a public information session. The public information session will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the 413 Academy St., in Room 261. Individuals will have the opportunity to learn about the accreditation processes and address their comments to the assessment team. The information session will start at 5 p.m. and will conclude when attendees have had an opportunity to speak to the team. Individuals who are unable to attend the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team may do so by telephone. The public may call 302-831-2682 on Monday, Aug. 26, between 3 and 5 p.m. This phone line will only be available during this time period.
