Page-Gil elected student body president in spring SGA elections


1:07 p.m., April 29, 2014--The University of Delaware Student Government Association has announced the results of spring balloting, with Ben Page-Gil elected student body president and Danielle Imhoff elected executive vice president.

The election, held Friday, April 25, was open to all full-time matriculated undergraduate students. Each student received an email shortly after midnight on April 25 with a link to vote for the five elected members of the executive cabinet and five student affairs senators.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

In addition to the president and executive vice president, students elected to the executive cabinet were Rebecca Jaeger as vice president of university affairs, Lalu John Ologbauma as vice president of administration and finance, and Javier Horstmann as chief justice.

Elected student affairs senators were Rebecca Bronstein, Claire Gollegly, Giuliana Lorusso, Ross Schinik and Michelle Wasserman.

The SGA is looking for highly motivated individuals interested in applying for the positions listed below, which are to be appointed in May.

  • Three public relations senators;
  • Three programming senators;
  • Three finance senators;
  • Two governmental affairs senators;
  • Two associate justices; and
  • One chief of staff.

Position descriptions, as well as appointment information and process, can be found on the appointment PDF under "Appointments for the 2014-2015 Academic Year" on the main page of the SGA website.

Interest meetings for the appointed positions will be on Wednesday, April 30, at 5 p.m. in 019M Perkins Student Center, as well as on Thursday, May 1, also at 5 p.m. in 019M Perkins.

Appointment applications are to be submitted by 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 4. To apply for an appointed position, log in to Student Central and click the "Forms" tab on the SGA Student Central page.

The Student Government Association serves to represent the undergraduate student population. SGA aims to enhance student life by actively addressing student issues as the liaison among students, faculty, and administration.
