2 p.m., Sept. 11, 2012--The University of Delaware will welcome friends and families of Blue Hens to campus for Parents and Family Weekend, Oct. 5-7.

Sponsored by the Office of Student Life, the weekend offers families the chance to experience life at UD along with students.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

“The program is really an opportunity for parents to connect with the institution,” said José-Luis Riera, associate dean of students.

Riera said one of the popular events is a Saturday morning parents and family welcome social, at which parents can mingle with people such as UD President Patrick Harker and academic deans, as well as open houses for individual colleges.

“This affords families the opportunity to meet people that their children are interacting with -- friends and faculty,” Riera said.

While most events scheduled for the weekend are free and require only registration to attend, a few select events require the purchase of tickets. Ticketed events include the football game against Maine and the tailgate buffet on Saturday, the comedy show with Martin Short on Friday, and Sunday brunch at various dining halls.

Registration and tickets are available online through Sept. 24.  Visit the Parents and Family Weekend website and click on the “register today” button. Tickets ordered before Sept. 24 will be mailed to the recipients as orders are received.

The number of attendees at some events is limited so families should purchase tickets in advance. Tickets to the football game must be purchased separately through Delaware athletics.
