General University Research award celebration, networking

3:06 p.m., Sept. 19, 2012--The University of Delaware Research Office, in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Humanities Research Center in the College of Arts and Sciences, invites applicants, new faculty and Faculty Senate reviewers to attend an award celebration showcasing research funded through the 2012 General University Research (GUR) program.

The reception, set for Tuesday, Oct. 2, from 4–5:30 p.m., in the Old College lobby and Room 207, will enable applicants to learn about GUR research being conducted on campus and to network with awardees and reviewers. Food and beverages will be provided. Online registration for the event is available until Sept. 25 at this website.

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

Each year, the Research Office invites faculty to submit proposals for the annual program of the General University Research (GUR) fund. The GUR program provides assistance to full-time faculty for individual research and professional development through GUR grants.

These merit-based grants are administered by the vice provost for research, who is advised by the Research Committee of the Faculty Senate. The Research Committee recommends allocation of the funds available for the year, evaluates applications and recommends those to be supported. GUR grants are awarded primarily in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Proposals involving interdisciplinary research are especially encouraged.

Prospective applicants for a GUR grant are encouraged to attend the workshop “How to Prepare a GUR Proposal” on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Details and registration will be announced in the near future.
