University alumni invited to participate in Sept. 22 Day of Service

7:55 a.m., Sept. 14, 2012--University of Delaware alumni are invited to participate in 2012 UD Day of Service activities at various times and locations on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The Day of Service is being offered by UD’s offices of Residence Life and Alumni Relations and regional alumni clubs.

The University of Delaware's Nii Attoh-Okine recently published a new book with Cambridge University Press, "Resilience Engineering: Models and Analysis."

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

All Blue Hens, friends and families are welcome attend one of the many locations on- or off-campus to make positive contributions to area communities.

Other alumni activities are as follows:

Wednesday, Sept. 19, 6:30 p.m.: Bay Area trivia. Blue Hens in the San Francisco area will get together in the Nob Hill section for a happy hour and trivia.

Thursday, Sept. 20, 6:30 p.m.: South Florida Alumni Club networking event. Blue Hen alumni in South Florida will gather for a networking event.

Thursday, Sept. 20, 7 p.m.: Chicago trolley tour. UD alumni are invited to take a trolley tour of Chicago while enjoying food and drinks with fellow Blue Hens.

Friday, Sept. 21, 6 p.m.: UD Central Florida Alumni. Alumni are invited to join fellow Blue Hens in Orlando during a happy hour and interest meeting. Those who attend can share ideas for alumni events in Central Florida.

Friday, Sept. 28, 1 p.m.: Materials Science and Engineering barbecue. UD materials science and engineering alumni, students, employees and friends are invited to a barbeque in Newark to celebrate the beginning of the fall semester.

Saturday, Sept. 29, 7 a.m.: Medieval Art in New York City. Blue Hens will be guided through collections at The Cloisters in New York by Lawrence Nees, professor in UD’s Department of Art History and president of the International Center of Medieval Art at The Cloisters, and two distinguished scholar-colleagues, Leslie Busis Tait and Danielle Oteri. There will be lunch in midtown Manhattan in addition to the tour, and buses will leave from Delaware.

Sunday, Sept. 30, 8 a.m.: NASCAR in Dover. Alumni are invited to Dover International Speedway for a day at the track during NASCAR’s AAA 400 Sprint Cup Series race. Hospitality, tickets and exclusive access are all included.

Friday through Sunday, Oct. 19-21: Homecoming Weekend 2012. Alumni are invited to return to campus for Homecoming Weekend 2012, with a variety of events including Blue Hens football on Saturday afternoon.

The Office of Alumni Relations recognizes and thanks the UD Alumni Association for its support of some of these events.
