Wine tasting, museum tour, football watch party planned

8:37 a.m., Sept. 7, 2012--University of Delaware alumni activities scheduled in the coming weeks include a wine tasting, a museum tour and an NFL football watch party.

The wine tasting for Connecticut area alumni will be held Thursday, Sept. 13, and a museum tour focusing on Edgar Allen Poe will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Brandywine River Museum.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

On Sunday, Sept. 16, Delaware area alumni are invited to an NFL watch party as the Baltimore Ravens – featuring two Blue Hens in quarterback Joe Flacco and offensive lineman Gino Gradkowski – take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

These and other alumni activities are as follows:

Thursday, Sept. 13, 6 p.m.: Connecticut Blue Hens private wine tasting. UD alumni will gather for a wine tasting at the picturesque Rosedale Farms and Vineyard in Simsbury, Conn. Rosedale is a family vineyard of Amanda Epstein McCullough, a 1997 alumna.

Saturday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m.: UD Saturday Symposium: Picturing Poe. Alumni will meet at the Brandywine River Museum with curator Audrey Lewis, who received a master’s degree from UD in 1993, and UD faculty for a day focusing on Edgar Allan Poe and the visual artists inspired by his tales of terror and mystery.

Saturday, Sept. 15, 6 p.m.: D.C. United soccer and new alumni event. Washington, D.C., area alumni will welcome the newest additions of the University’s D.C. Alumni Club at a D.C. United Major League Soccer match. New graduates are encouraged to come and meet their fellow Blue Hen alumni, get insider tips on Washington and enjoy the game.

Sunday, Sept. 16, 1 p.m.: NFL football watch party. Alumni are invited to gather at Stanley’s in north Wilmington to watch the Baltimore Ravens – featuring Blue Hens quarterback Joe Flacco and center Gino Gradkowski – as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Wednesday, Sept. 19, 6:30 p.m.: Bay Area trivia. Blue Hens in the San Francisco area will get together in the Nob Hill section for a happy hour and trivia.

Thursday, Sept. 20, 7 p.m.: Chicago trolley tour. UD alumni are invited to take a trolley tour of Chicago while enjoying food and drinks with fellow Blue Hens.

Friday, Sept. 21, 6 p.m.: UD Central Florida Alumni. Alumni are invited to join fellow Blue Hens in Orlando during a happy hour and interest meeting. Those who attend can share ideas for alumni events in Central Florida.

Saturday, Sept. 22, various times and locations: UD Day of Service 2012. The University’s offices of Residence Life and Alumni Relations and the UD regional alumni clubs invite alumni to get involved in the 2012 UD Day of Service. All Blue Hens, friends and families are welcome attend one of the many locations on- or off-campus to make positive contributions to area communities.

Friday, Sept. 28, 1 p.m.: Materials Science and Engineering barbecue.UD materials science and engineering alumni, students, employees and friends are invited to a barbeque in Newark to celebrate the beginning of the fall semester.

Friday through Sunday, Oct. 19-21: Homecoming Weekend 2012. Alumni are invited to return to campus for Homecoming Weekend 2012, with a variety of events including Blue Hens football on Saturday afternoon.
