UD to test emergency notification system Sept. 19

2:18 p.m., Sept. 12, 2012--The University of Delaware will test its emergency notification system around 9:55 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 19. 

For Wednesday's test, text and email messages will be sent through the UD Alert system to campus email addresses, cell phones and office phones. The emergency test message will come from 302-831-4111.

For this test, messages will not be sent to emergency contacts. 

On Wednesday, messages will be broadcast on loudspeakers around the campus through the carillon system and via overrides for the campus cable television system and on classroom projection systems. 

"The UD Alert System is our primary vehicle for contacting the member of our community in an emergency situation, said Marcia Nickle, emergency manager in the Office of Campus and Public Safety. "This test will help ensure that the systems are functioning properly, and it also reminds the members of our community that we will be reaching out to them in a variety of methods in a true emergency."  

The UD Alert System is only used when there is a clear and credible danger to the University community. The system uses text, email and phone messages, broadcasts on loudspeakers around the campus and override of classroom projection systems.

All members of the University community are reminded that, for the system to be effective, contact information in the University's central databases should be up to date. Information on how to update emergency information, which may be done online at any time, is available at these two websites:
