Highest grade point index awards presented to 14 UD seniors

3:46 p.m., May 25, 2013--Fourteen graduating University of Delaware seniors achieved the highest grade point index earned in full-time study toward a University degree and were recognized during Commencement ceremonies held May 25 in Delaware Stadium.

To be eligible, a graduating senior must have earned at least 75 percent of the total credits required for the degree at the University of Delaware and must have averaged a minimum of 15 credits per semester.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Recognized at the Commencement ceremony by Nancy Brickhouse, interim provost, for achieving perfect 4.0 averages were

Casey Richard Casalnuovo, of Wilmington, Del., who received a degree in computer science and plans to attend graduate school at the University of California Davis.

Rebecca Anne Godwin, of Milford, Del., who received an honors degree in early childhood education and plans to teach while continuing her education part-time with research on metacognition and self-efficacy in young children.

Christine Elizabeth Gregg, of Hockessin, Del., who received a degree in mechanical engineering and plans to attend graduate school.

Benjamin Jeffrey Hockman, of Hockessin, Del., who received a degree in mechanical engineering and plans to attend graduate school at Stanford University.

Isaac M. Lewis, of Laurel, Del., who received a degree in criminal justice and plans to join the Marine Corps.

Emily Mackey, of Lewisberry, Pa., who received a degree in pre-veterinary medicine and animal biology and plans to attend graduate school at North Carolina State University.

Kelsey Elizabeth McGlade, of Broomall, Pa., who received a degree in biological sciences and plans to attend medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

James Thomas McParland, of West Chester, Pa., who received an honors degree in biochemistry and plans to attend medical school.

Daniel Robert Pearlston, of Herndon, Va., who received a degree in management information systems and plans to work for Deloitte in the Washington, D.C., area.

Torey Allan Roesch, of Middletown, Del., who received a degree in biological sciences and plans to attend medical school at the Thomas Jefferson Medical College.

Kevin Michael Rowley, of Lancaster, Pa., who received degrees in biological sciences and exercise science and plans to attend the University of Southern California to study biokinesiology.

Kimberly Rachel Shao, of Lynbrook, N.Y., who received a degree in exercise science and plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.

Alexander Michael Sidor, of Media, Pa., who received a degree in neuroscience and plans to attend medical school.

Nicole Marie Wells, of Newark, Del., who received a degree in electrical engineering and plans to work for Apple in California.
