University's colleges to battle it out in Mug Wars fund competition

8:36 a.m., May 30, 2013--The University of Delaware Office of Development and Alumni Relations has announced that it will hold the inaugural Mug Wars college fundraising competition during Alumni Weekend registration.

Mug Wars will take place from 3-10 p.m., Friday, May 31, outside the Multipurpose Rooms in the Trabant University Center.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

The friendly competition pits UD’s seven colleges against each other to see which can raise the most money in a short time period. The Annual Fund of the winning college will receive all of the change collected.

To participate in Mug Wars, bring spare change to Alumni Weekend registration.

Participants can contribute pennies to the mugs of those colleges that they want to lose and silver coins to the college that they want to win. There will be volunteers at the Mug Wars table to make change for paper bills, if needed.

The winning college will be announced by the bands at Mug Night.
