5:50 p.m., March 14, 2013--The second Graduate Research Café, featuring informal and informative presentations by graduate students from the University of Delaware, will be held Tuesday, March 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Deer Park Tavern in Newark.

Two doctoral students from very different fields will present their work, providing the audience with insight into the breadth and depth of research at UD.

Research Stories

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

Kerry Hasler-Brooks, doctoral candidate in English, will speak on “Neither This Nor That, Yet Both: Imagining a Borderlands South in Literature from Mexico and the United States.”

Vinu Krishnan, doctoral student in materials science and engineering, will present “Can Nanomedicine Overcome the Chemotherapy Conundrum in Childhood Cancers?”

The event, which is free and open to the public, promises to be a fun and meaningful learning experience for both the student speakers and the audience. Each presentation will last 20 minutes, followed by a discussion.

The series was established with the support of the Office of Graduate and Professional Education, the Center for Science, Ethics and Public Policy, the Interdisciplinary Humanities Research Center, Delaware EPSCoR and the National Science Foundation.

The last Graduate Research Café of the semester will be held on April 15, at a location to be announced.
