6:07 p.m., March 13, 2013--The University of Delaware Center for Global and Area Studies (CGAS) and the Institute for Global Studies (IGS) invite applications from faculty for the 2013 Small Research Grants competition. Proposals from the social sciences, humanities, sciences and arts are welcome.

The grants are designed to support travel and research for faculty actively engaged in the Area Studies programs (Latin American and Iberian, Asian, European, Islamic, Jewish and African). The University hopes to award a total of 10 small grants.

Global Stories

Fulbright awards

Three University of Delaware students and an alumna have received word this spring that they will travel abroad as part of the newest class of Fulbright Student Program award winners.

Peace Corps plans

Two University of Delaware students, John McCarron and Bridgette Spritz, have been selected as Peace Corps volunteers and will serve in Ghana and Rwanda.

IGS is funding four proposals focused on Latin America and Africa as part of its Latin American Regional Knowledge Network and the UD-Africa Initiative. Recipients are expected to present a lecture on their work as part of a global lecture series at UD.

The amount of each grant will depend on the scope of the support requested but cannot exceed $5,000. Funds must be spent between June 1, 2013, and May 30, 2014. The deadline for applications is March 18.

Proposals must include the following:

  • A two-page narrative explaining the significance of the project and potential contributions to the field;
  • A budget page and justification for the line items; and
  • A curriculum vitae.

Send an application via email to Bess Davis at esdavis@udel.edu. A faculty committee will review the proposals and make recommendations. Questions should be addressed to Julio Carrión, director of CGAS, at jcarrion@udel.edu. Grant recipients will be notified by April 15.
