From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.


The College of Arts and Sciences has announced three new interim chair appointments: Russell Murray in the Department of Music, Rene Marquez in the Department of Art and Arwen Mohun in the Department of History. All are effective Sept. 1.


The nonprofit 21st Century Fund for Delaware’s Children presented its first Lifetime Achievement Award to Vivian B. Young, a member of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Wilmington. Young founded Stand for Children Delaware, a group dedicated to improving public schools and closing achievement gaps and is still active on children’s issues at age 97. The presentation was reported in the News Journal.


UD Museums’ exhibition “Gertrude K√§sebier: The Complexity of Light and Shade” was featured in the March 22 Antiques and the Arts Weekly, which cited both the University’s show and that at the Delaware Art Museum. The writer calls the UD presentation “a splendid exhibition.” Works are on view through June 28 in the Old College Main Gallery.

Deavon Church, computing support specialist II, Library Information Technology User Support Department, University of Delaware Library, was interviewed by WHYY Wilmington about the exhibition "The World of the Graphic Novel" mounted by the University of Delaware Library on Feb. 12.


Carla Guerron-Montero, associate professor of anthropology, has been appointed co-chair of the Committee for World Anthropologies (CWA). As part of the American Anthropological Association, the CWA identifies significant issues that are shared among anthropologists from different nations.
