TEXT SIZE

9:45 a.m., March 28, 2013--The Delaware Rehabilitation Institute at the University of Delaware has issued a request for proposals for pilot grants through its National Institutes of Health Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) award, which focuses on osteoarthritis prevention and treatment.

The COBRE pilot grants are intended to fund research for a one-year period to allow research teams to develop more substantial independent external support from the National Institutes of Health. Meritorious projects may be renewed for a second year.

Research Stories

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

Each proposal must be submitted by a person with a UD faculty appointment at any rank. Proposals from junior investigators without prior independent NIH grant history are encouraged.

Proposals are due by noon on Monday, April 22, with the funding period from May 1, 2013, to April 30, 2014.

Visit the website for more details about proposal format and submission.

About the COBRE program

The University of Delaware has received $5.4 million over five years from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to support an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE). The IDeA program builds research capacities in states that historically have had low levels of NIH funding by supporting basic, clinical and translational research; faculty development; and infrastructure improvements.
