Global Stories

Fulbright awards

Three University of Delaware students and an alumna have received word this spring that they will travel abroad as part of the newest class of Fulbright Student Program award winners.

Peace Corps plans

Two University of Delaware students, John McCarron and Bridgette Spritz, have been selected as Peace Corps volunteers and will serve in Ghana and Rwanda.

He has taught Fulbright courses and organized joint United States-European Union Baltic Sea symposia with the universities and research institutes of the nine Baltic countries.

Former recipients of the honorary doctorate from Klaipeda University include internationally known scientists, as well as the president of Latvia, the president of Lithuania and European Union officials.

The festive inauguration took place on June 7 and was reminiscent of an Elizabethan Rout, as the university senators and student pages were dressed in formal ancient regalia and the proclamation and songs were in Latin.

Klemas joined the UD faculty in 1970 and established one of the first Centers for Remote Sensing in this country. He has published more than 100 journal articles and has served on various government advisory panels and six committees of the National Research Council (NAS).

Recently he co-authored a book, Remote Sensing and Global Environmental Change, which has received excellent press reviews and is being used by universities and research centers.
