Newark man arrested in motel shooting
10:28 p.m., June 21, 2013--Newark Police have arrested a 20-year-old Newark man for the June 17 shooting incident at America's Best Value Inn at 1120 South College Ave., Newark.
A man and woman walked into the lobby of the motel around 1 p.m., June 17, and reported that they had been shot by a male acquaintance in the rear parking lot of the complex. The woman sustained a graze wound to the back and the man has a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Both were treated and released from Christiana Hospital on the same day.

Through their investigation, Newark Police detectives identified Michael Cummings as the shooter and learned that, after an argument, he approached both victims in the parking lot, displayed a handgun and began firing in their direction, striking both.
On June 21, members of the U.S. Marshal Service First State Fugitive Task Force and the Newark Police Street Crimes Unit located Cummings inside a motel room at the Sleep Inn, 630 South College Ave., He was taken into custody without incident.
Cummings was charged with one count of first degree assault, one count of second degree assault and one count of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He is currently in the custody of Newark Police pending arraignment.
