University faculty, staff, students and their family members and friends have a long history of supporting the Blood Bank through on-campus blood drives. UD is coming off a win in the Colonial Athletic Association Blood Challenge in December 2011.
Keeping a stable blood supply is particularly important during the summer months when fewer people donate and more people are traveling or pursuing outdoor activities where injuries occur.
The Summer Blood Drive is a friendly competition among businesses and organizations on Delmarva to recruit the most blood donors and Blood Bank members during the summer.
The employer in each size category with the highest percentage of participation is declared the winner.
Individual donors have the chance to win weekly prizes of $50 gas cards and are eligible for the grand prize drawings. Grand prizes include a Carmen Fiat automobile, and Visa gift cards of $2,000 or $1,000.
UD students, faculty, staff and their friends and family members are invited to donate at any of the Blood Bank’s four donation centers, as there will not be a summer blood drive on campus.
