Search committee named for marketing, communications vice president

11:44 a.m., July 30, 2012--Twelve senior-level faculty and administrators will lead a national search for the University of Delaware's next vice president for communications and marketing, UD President Patrick T. Harker announced today.

"I am grateful to my colleagues for their assistance with filling this important position," Harker said. "As we continue building the University's brand, it is crucial that we have a strong advocate who can focus our efforts to tell the Delaware story to our many different constituent groups and assure that the University's impact is felt throughout the nation and across the world."

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

David L. Brond resigned the position in June to become senior vice president of communications and marketing at the Georgia Health Sciences enterprise.

Co-chairing the committee are Dawn Thompson, dean of students and associate vice president of student life, and Bruce Weber, dean of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics. 

Committee members are José Aviles, director of admissions; Ralph Begleiter, director of the Center for Political Communication and Rosenberg Professor of Communication; Dawn Elliott, professor and director of the biomedical engineering program; Roberta Golinkoff, H. Rodney Sharp Chair in the School of Education; Samantha K. Huge, interim director of athletics and recreation; Matt Kinservik, professor of English and associate dean for the humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences; Karl Steiner, senior associate provost for research development and professor of electrical and computer engineering; Nancy Targett, dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and director of the Sea Grant College Program; Monica Taylor, vice president of development and alumni relations; and David Wilson, associate professor of political science and international relations. 

John Brennan, director of public and media relations since 2005, is leading and managing the Office of Communications and Marketing until the new vice president is named.
