9:31 a.m., July 9, 2012--The Infant Language Project at the University of Delaware invites parents and their young children to participate in studies as researchers work to answer the question "how do children learn language?"

The project, which is directed by Roberta Golinkoff, H. Rodney Sharp Chair in the School of Education, has studies for children from two months to four years of age that explore various aspects of the language-learning process.

Research Stories

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

Parents and their children can be part of the research and help scientists understand how children take this giant leap in development.

During a 30-minute visit to the laboratory, located in the Willard Hall Education Building on UD's Newark Campus, friendly research assistants play with children to help them feel comfortable in new surroundings. Then they present a short game or show a short movie and monitor children’s eye movements.

"If it sounds fun and interesting, you're not alone -- many families have been participating at the Infant Language Project for years," a representative of the project said.

To sign-up for participation, visit the website or call 302-831-2073. Those with interest can also email the lab at udinfantlab@gmail.com with any questions. Free parking is available for participants behind the Willard Hall Education Building.
