9:19 a.m., July 23, 2012--The University of Delaware's Office of Residence Life is looking for volunteers to join the Arrival Survival Team that will help new students move into residence halls on Saturday, Aug. 25.

Residence Life has been offering this service campus-wide to incoming first year students since 1994, after assuming responsibility from Sigma Chi fraternity, which initially developed the team as a service project to assist the first year students in the Dickinson Complex.

Arrival Survival Team volunteers help new students move their luggage and other belongings into their residence hall rooms on new student check-in day. This activity assists students and their parents in their transition to the University, is the first step in extending a warm welcome to them, and begins to build the strong and positive community that enhances every student's living and learning experience.

Because first year students are busy moving in and getting oriented to the campus, they may not volunteer to be on the Arrival Survival Team.

Those students who are living on campus and want to volunteer can move into their residence halls early on Aug. 23 from 5-9 p.m. for a discounted early check-in rate of $75.

Sign up is available online at the Arrival Survival Team website if you are a student or staff or faculty member.

Community members and UD alumni can also sign up for Arrival Survival by contacting Linda Wooters in the Office of Residence Life at lwooters@udel.edu or by calling 302-831-8423.

All other questions regarding the Arrival Survival Team can be directed to Wooters.

Additionally, during move-in days, faculty members are invited to visit residence halls to interact with both parents and students. During this time, faculty members will have an opportunity to welcome new students to campus, and answer any general campus and classroom questions.

For interested faculty, a residence life liaison and residence hall tour will be provided before move in day.

To sign up, or to find more information about the role faculty members can play on move-in day and after, visit this website or email Siobhan May, student engagement coordinator in the Office of Residence Life, at skmay@udel.edu.
