Two men arrested in July 10 robbery at College Square Shopping Center

5:45 p.m., July 13, 2012--Newark Police have arrested two men for the July 10 robbery of Cigarette City in the College Square Shopping Center, after a tip from Delaware Crime Stoppers.

As a result of the tip, Newark Police officers located and arrested Tavius A. Alexander, 24, of Bear, and Christopher M. Schmidt, 40, of Wilmington. 

A subsequent investigation by Newark Police and Delaware State Police also linked the two men to an attempted robbery at Super Dry Cleaners on Pulaski Highway and a robbery of Holiday Hair Salon in Eden Square Shopping Center, both on July 9, and they have been charged in those incidents as well. 

After Alexander was arrested on July 12, investigators determined Schmidt's whereabouts. On July 13, officers from the Newark Police Department and Delaware State Police, with assistance from University of Delaware Police and the Newport Police Department, executed a search warrant at a home in Newport, where they found Schmidt. 

Both men have been committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Facility: Alexander in lieu of $115,000 secured bail and Schmidt in lieu of $106,400 secured bail.
