Newark Police investigate armed robbery at College Square Shopping Center
4:43 p.m., July 11, 2012--Newark Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred around 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, at Cigarette City in the College Square Shopping Center.
A man entered the store, displayed a black handgun and demanded cash from the store clerk. After receiving an undisclosed amount of currency, he fled the store in an unknown direction. The clerk was not injured.

Police have released a surveillance image of the suspect, who is described at 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build and dirty blond or brown hair. He was wearing a white, short sleeved T-shirt with the word "tapout" on the front, dark colored shorts, a brown baseball hat, sunglasses, white ankle length socks and dark colored sneakers.
Investigators believe that before the robbery the suspect had contact with another man who had been in the store earlier. Police also released a photo of him, and he is described as having a "chin strap" beard, wearing a black baseball hat and a dark colored short sleeved shirt.
The police are seeking the public's help in identifying both the suspect and the unknown man who was in the store before the robbery.
