Gary Stokes elected president of Pinnacle Consortium of Higher Education


2:43 p.m., Jan. 9, 2013--Gary H. Stokes, director of risk management at the University of Delaware, has been elected president of the Pinnacle Consortium of Higher Education and vice president of Genesis Limited. Both are two-year terms. 

Pinnacle is a reciprocal risk retention group owned by 16 universities that provides general liability insurance for each of them. It allows its subscribers to secure customized coverage and services tailored to meet the special needs of institutions of higher education and provides them an effective and stable way to finance and manage their critical exposures to risk.

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Genesis Limited, which is incorporated under the laws of Bermuda, is owned by the same 16 schools. It reinsures the risk assumed by Pinnacle and provides its members flexible, broad coverage tailored to their needs. 

Besides UD, the other participating institutions are Brown, Columbia, Dartmouth, George Washington, Howard, Johns Hopkins, NYU, Penn, Princeton, RPI, Rutgers, Temple, Tufts, Vermont and Washington University in St. Louis.  

Pinnacle and Genesis Limited both have an A.M. Best rating of A or excellent. 

In addition to serving as president of Pinnacle, Stokes chairs its subscriber committee (which is equivalent to a board of directors) and the executive committee and serves on the operations, finance, risk control, admission and nominating committees. 

At Genesis Limited, Stokes is vice chair of the board of directors and the executive committee and serves on the nominating and finance committees. 

As part of the risk management function at UD, Stokes oversees the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program whose goal it is to identify and mitigate enterprise-wide risks. In addition, Stokes oversees the University’s Employee Rental Housing program.

Stokes also serves as president of the UDel Federal Credit Union
