As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Articles

Harsh Bais, associate professor of plant and soil sciences, was featured in a Jan. 1 The Scientist magazine article on “Fighting Microbes with Microbes.” Bais told the magazine it might be possible to reduce the use of pesticides and fungicides “by utilizing the microbe,” and added that researchers “need to know more about the mechanisms of action” because “relationships between microbes and plants are very complex.”

Presentations

Carolee Polek, associate professor in the School of Nursing, presented "Misperceptions of Breast Cancer Risks Among High School Girls and the Unintended Consequences” at the London Women’s Leadership Symposium held at the Oxford and Cambridge Club, London, on Dec. 9.

Amy Johnson, professor in the School of Nursing, presented “Women in the University: Rewards and Challenges” at the London Women’s Leadership Symposium, held at the Oxford and Cambridge Club, London, on Dec. 8.
