Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

“The show's focus is on contemporary social and environmental issues with an emphasis on solutions,” Barnes said, adding that each will feature interviews with “some of the country’s most influential social and environmental thinkers, scholars and individuals who possess in-depth knowledge about particular issues.”

Barnes said the goal “is to help the listening audience understand the issue, the impact it has on their lives, and then offer suggestions and strategies for making improvements.”

Guests are scheduled as follows:

  • Feb. 12 – Amy Roe, a UD graduate, will discuss her research on the collapse of the American Shad in the Susquehanna River.
  • Feb. 26 -- Rob Dietz from the Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy and author of a new book on the subject titled Enough is Enough.
  • March 5 -- Joe Zammit-Lucia will discuss the future of energy and the transition to a renewable energy system.
  • March 19 – Joseph Tainter, renowned historian and anthropologist.
