SPPA doctoral student announces 'Beyond Rhetoric' talk show
1:15 p.m., Feb. 6, 2013--“Beyond Rhetoric,” a new public affairs talk show on University of Delaware radio station WVUD 91.3 has been announced by Philip Barnes, a doctoral student in UD’s School of Public Policy and Administration.
Barnes will host the 30-minute show, which will air from 6:30-7 p.m. Tuesdays on WVUD, with the first episode to air Feb. 12.

“The show's focus is on contemporary social and environmental issues with an emphasis on solutions,” Barnes said, adding that each will feature interviews with “some of the country’s most influential social and environmental thinkers, scholars and individuals who possess in-depth knowledge about particular issues.”
Barnes said the goal “is to help the listening audience understand the issue, the impact it has on their lives, and then offer suggestions and strategies for making improvements.”
Guests are scheduled as follows:
- Feb. 12 – Amy Roe, a UD graduate, will discuss her research on the collapse of the American Shad in the Susquehanna River.
- Feb. 26 -- Rob Dietz from the Center for the Advancement of the Steady State Economy and author of a new book on the subject titled Enough is Enough.
- March 5 -- Joe Zammit-Lucia will discuss the future of energy and the transition to a renewable energy system.
- March 19 – Joseph Tainter, renowned historian and anthropologist.
