4:08 p.m., Feb. 8, 2013--The hashtag #TUDPRSSA trended briefly on Jan. 17 in Philadelphia as members of the Public Relations Student Society of America at UD (PRSSA-UD) and Temple University’s PRSSA held a “Twitter chat.”

Both PRSSA chapters encouraged members to participate in the chat, which focused on experiences in the organization. Participants used the hashtag to chat and it trended in the city for a bit because of the sheer number of tweets produced during the chat.

Reviresco June run

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Jamie Lawlor, programs director of PRSSA-UD, and Brianna Rooney, historian and director of alumni relations of Temple PRSSA, met in Philadelphia earlier in the month to plan the chat. They wanted to focus the chat on PRSSA experiences so that everyone could contribute, so that the organization could receive feedback and to create a community of PRSSA members online.

“It was great to see even freshmen members participating in the chat,” says Lawlor. “We received great feedback and I loved hearing what PRSSA meant to other members.”

A “Twitter chat” normally focuses around a specific topic and uses a specific hashtag to organize conversation. An account will moderate the chat, sending out questions in each tweet, using the hashtag. Participants answer the question with their own thoughts using the hashtag.

PRSSA-UD often holds Twitter chats to give its members the chance to discuss and create relationships in a digital forum. They held their first Twitter chat in October, and it focused on brand use of social media.
