1:32 p.m., Feb. 18, 2013--Having received more than 240 "likes" in less than one week, Lindsey and Matt Heppner were named the 2013 University of Delaware Double Del Lovebirds.

The Heppners met freshman year. Matt Heppner, a member of the Class of 2008, was a baseball player, and he lived a floor above Lindsey, a member of the Class of 2007 and a field hockey player, in the Pencader residence hall complex.

Reviresco June run

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

The contest was hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations on its Facebook page and featured photos posted by Double Dels -- married couples who are UD alumni -- along with a story about how they met.

As the contest got under way, Double Dels were encouraged to post their photos on the Facebook wall with the couple that received the most popular photo to be named the winner. Photo popularity was determined by the number of likes each photo received.

This year’s contest saw 71 photos posted and more than 3,800 total likes in less than a week.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to the contest, the Office of Alumni Relations announced that it would award prizes to the top three Double Dels.

In addition to awarding first place to the Heppners, the office also awarded second place to Mike and Alexis Kearsey, both of the Class of 2003, and third place to Brandon and Kathryn Ellis, both of the Class of 2007.

Also, the office gave special recognition to Melissa Maskery and Mark Mackey, both members of the Class of 2011, who are engaged and who received the most votes. “While they aren't Double Dels yet, they certainly are the front runners to win next year's contest after their wedding this September,” an Alumni Relations representative said.
