Global Agenda opener features former CIA spokesman

9:51 a.m., Feb. 20, 2013--“Through a U.S. Lens: Reflections of a Former Chief Spokesman of the CIA” will be the opening presentation in the University of Delaware’s 2013 Global Agenda speaker series, to be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, in Mitchell Hall. 

The speaker will be Bill Harlow, a consultant and public relations specialist who was chief spokesman of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1997 to 2004 during the administrations of presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Harlow also traveled with presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush during four years at the White House, handling national security media matters.

He is the author of the best-selling books Circle William and Hard Measures: How Aggressive CIA Actions After 9/11 Save American Lives and the co-author with former CIA director George Tenet of At the Center of the Storm.

The theme of this year’s Global Agenda is “America’s Role in the World.”

Global Agenda is presented by the Institute for Global Studies, the Department of Communication and the Department of Political Science and International Relations. The series is moderated by Ralph Begleiter, director of UD’s Center for Political Communication.

The series is free and open to the public.
