UD alumni to gather in New York for 'Conservations and Connections'

8:23 a.m., Feb. 15, 2013--University of Delaware alumni are invited to “An Evening of Conversations and Connections” at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 26, at JPMorgan Chase at 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza.

UD’s New York City Alumni Club Alumni invites alumni, students and friends to the second “An Evening of Conversations and Connections” event. Those who attend can meet and learn from successful UD alumni and expand their professional networks.

The University of Delaware's Nii Attoh-Okine recently published a new book with Cambridge University Press, "Resilience Engineering: Models and Analysis."

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

The evening’s theme, “Lessons in Global Strategies,” will feature an interactive discussion focused on the ever-increasing importance of engaging in worldwide business and communications across all industries.

Speakers will include alumnus Kenneth Whitney, a 1980 graduate who is senior managing director of Blackstone, and Jose A. Aviles, UD director of admissions. Whitney will speak on “Alternative Investments and Expectations for Returns in the Near Future.”

Cost is $45 online and the deadline is Feb. 19

Tuesday, Feb. 19, 5 p.m.: Philadelphia happy hour. The Philadelphia Alumni Club will sponsor happy hour and Quizzo at Cavanaugh’s Rittenhouse.

Wednesday, Feb. 20, 6:30 p.m.: Washington, D.C. Alumni Club town hall meeting. The Washington, D.C., Alumni Club will hold a town hall meeting at which Blue Hens can get to know fellow alumni and D.C. alumni club board representatives over drinks and snacks. There will be an open discussion about the future direction of the club. Alumni are invited to share ideas and offer feedback.

Thursday, Feb. 21, 5:30 p.m.: Chicago Alumni Club networking happy hour. The Chicago Alumni Club holds a casual networking happy hour the third Thursday of each month.

Thursday, Feb. 21, 6:30 p.m. Northern New Jersey. A Northern New Jersey alumni brainstorming meeting and men’s basketball watch party will be held at the Alexus Steakhouse in Clifton, N.J. Alumni are invited to bring their ideas for events and activities in the 2013 calendar year.

Saturday, Feb. 23, 8:15 a.m.: Lancaster alumni at the Barnes Foundation. Lancaster, Pa., area alumni are invited to enjoy a day at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. Price includes admission to the museum and round-trip bus transportation from Lancaster.

Saturday, Feb. 23, 3:30 p.m.: Baltimore alumni at The Brewer's Art. Baltimore alumni will get together for a tour and tasting at The Brewer's Art.

Saturday, March 2, 4 p.m.: Seattle Blue Hens happy hour. Join UD graduates in Seattle at Delaware native Chef Tom Douglas' establishment, the Brave Horse Tavern, for drinks, complimentary appetizers and good times.

Thursday, March 7, 6 p.m.: Kent and Sussex wine tasting, poetry. The Kent and Sussex Counties Alumni Club will hold a wine tasting and poetry reading at Nassau Valley Vineyards. Anne Colwell, a 1988 alumna, will share her poetry.

Saturday, March 9, 10 a.m.: Philadelphia’s Please Touch Museum. UD alumni and their families will gather for a fun-filled day at the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia.

Saturday, March 9, 10 a.m.: Baltimore’s Port Discovery. UD alumni and their families will gather for a fun-filled day at the Port Discovery Children’s Museum in Baltimore. Those who attend can enjoy the interactive Wizard of Oz traveling exhibit and a private lunch in the atrium.

Saturday, March 9, 7 p.m.: Crew alumni winter party. The UD Men’s Crew Alumni Association and the Women’s Rowing Alumni will host a winter social at the historic Malta Boathouse, on iconic Boathouse Row on Kelly Drive in Philadelphia. There will be a silent auction, raffle and rowing merchandise for sale.

Sunday, March 10, 3 a.m.: UDance volunteers. UD alumni are encouraged to volunteer to support UDance, a 12-hour dance marathon and the University's largest student-run philanthropy.

Thursday, March 14, 5 p.m.: UD Day in Washington, D.C. A program and reception to showcase the University of Delaware will be held in Washington, D.C. Alumni are invited to a reception that will be held in the Kennedy Caucus Room, 325 Russell Senate Office Building.

Thursday, March 14, 5:30 p.m. Dallas happy hour. A Blue Hens happy hours will be held in Dallas, with beverages and free appetizers.

Thursday, March 14, 6 p.m. Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Alumni will gather for a fun and free evening at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Friends and family are welcome.

Friday, March 15, 6 p.m.: Pittsburgh happy hour. The Pittsburgh Alumni Club will gather for happy hour, with non-alumni guests welcome.
