3:29 p.m., Aug. 24, 2012--The Newark Police Department is investigating the burglary of six businesses and the attempted burglary of three more, all in the Suburban Plaza Shopping Center during the early morning of Aug. 23.
At 2:39 a.m., Newark Police officers responded to a commercial burglary alarm at Fulton Paper. Officers discovered that an unknown suspect, who had already fled the area, had pried open the front door and, once inside, opened the cash register. Officers canvassed the area and discovered five other stores that had been burglarized in a similar manner. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash from several of the burglarized locations. Officers also noted that the suspect had attempted to enter three other stores.
