New phishing scam alert

University IT, PNC report that automated telephone message is a scam

3:45 p.m., Aug. 2, 2012--University of Delaware IT and PNC Bank are reporting a new automated telephone phishing scam.

PNC Bank said that customers are receiving an automated telephone call saying that the individual’s PNC Bank card has been compromised. The caller then instructs the individual to press “1” and enter his or her card number.

2FA protects you

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

Anyone who receives such a message should hang up because it is a phishing scam. Under no circumstances should a recipient of the call enter their card number.

No legitimate business will call or contact you and ask for personal or private banking information.
