Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Honors

Robert Hampel, professor and interim director of the School of Education, is the runner-up in the History of Education Society’s biennial Article Prize. Of the 56 entries, Hampel received honorable mention for his article on the history of correspondence schools in early 20th century American universities. “The Business of Education: Home Study at Columbia University and the University of Wisconsin in the 1920s and 1930s” was published in Teachers College Record, September 2010, pp. 2496-2517.

Presentations

Ingrid Pretzer-Aboff, assistant professor in the School of Nursing, was a presenter at “Living Well with Parkinson’s Disease.” Sponsored by Christiana Care Rehabilitation Services, the day-long event reached out to patients and caregivers of those with the disease.

Members of the staff at Marriott's Courtyard Newark-University of Delaware were featured in the On the Town section of the August 2012 issue of Delaware Today magazine. Hotel team associates Veronica Lopez, Tom Mele, Judy Molock, Shantell Garnett and Jeff Brittingham were shown with the Marriott Corp. Plantinum Award, which was earned by the campus hotel.

Service

Joseph DeRanieri, assistant professor in the School of Nursing, has been appointed to the Advisory Board for the Vision of Performance Excellence Program (VoPEP) for the states of Delaware, Rhode Island and New Jersey. Modeled after the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, VoPEP offers a thorough and objective educational process through which an organization can learn and apply quality implementation techniques and assessment methods. Ranieri is also a member of the 2011 Board of Examiners for the Baldrige award.
