'Welcome to the Neighborhood' events set by UD alumni

9:12 a.m., Aug. 17, 2012--University of Delaware alumni groups are planning nationwide “Welcome to the Neighborhood” events on Thursday evening, Aug. 23.

The events are being held to welcome new alumni from the Class of 2012.

The University of Delaware's Nii Attoh-Okine recently published a new book with Cambridge University Press, "Resilience Engineering: Models and Analysis."

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Gatherings are planned in Baltimore, Boston, Lancaster, Pa., Long Island, N.Y., New York City, Philadelphia and Wilmington, Del.

Other alumni activities are as follows:

Saturday, Aug. 18, 5:30 p.m.: Delmarva Shorebirds baseball. UD alumni will offer an evening at the Delmarva Shorebirds game at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury, Md. The team will take on the Hagerstown Suns in a South Atlantic League game. There will be a buffet and fireworks.

Saturday, Sept. 8, 5:10 p.m.: Tampa Bay Rays baseball. UD alumni in Florida's Tampa Bay area are invited to an event at Tropicana Field as the Rays take on the Texas Rangers. There will be a pre-game reception at Tropicana Field's Bar 410.

Thursday, Sept. 13, 6 p.m.: Connecticut Blue Hens private wine tasting. UD alumni will gather for a wine tasting at the picturesque Rosedale Farms and Vineyard in Simsbury, Conn. Rosedale is a family vineyard of Amanda Epstein McCullough, a 1997 alumna.

Saturday, Sept. 15, 11 a.m.: UD Saturday Symposium: Picturing Poe. Alumni will meet at the Brandywine River Museum with curator Audrey Lewis, who received a master’s degree from UD in 1993, and UD faculty for a day focusing on Edgar Allan Poe and the visual artists inspired by his tales of terror and mystery.

Saturday, Sept. 15, 6 p.m.: D.C. United soccer and new alumni event. Washington, D.C., are alumni will welcome the newest additions of the University’s D.C. Alumni Club at a D.C. United Major League Soccer match. New graduates are encouraged to come and meet their fellow Blue Hen alumni, get insider tips on Washington and enjoy the game.

Friday, Sept. 21, 6 p.m.: UD Central Florida Alumni. Alumni are invited to join fellow Blue Hens in Orlando during a happy hour and interest meeting. Those who attend can share ideas for alumni events in Central Florida.

The Office of Alumni Relations recognizes and thanks the UD Alumni Association for its support of some of these events.
