Library sets genealogy workshops in May


6:18 p.m., April 8, 2013--The University of Delaware Library will present two workshops on genealogy during the 2013 spring semester. 

“Genealogy for Beginners,” on Tuesday, May 7, will cover the basics for researchers who are just starting to work on their family histories. It presents an overview of the types of records that contain genealogical information as well as research strategies for finding and recording this data. Participants  will also learn how to search the online database Ancestry Library Edition for U.S. census records.

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

“Genealogy: Beyond the Basics” will be presented on Tuesday, May 21. This workshop is designed for genealogy and history researchers who searched for basic information in census records and are now ready to explore other resources. The workshop will highlight more specialized sources, including historic newspapers, cemetery and church records, and passenger lists and immigration.

Both workshops will be held from 10 a.m.-noon in the Library Instruction Room, Room 116A on the first floor of the Morris Library.

Presenters will be Rebecca Knight, association librarian, and Linda Stein, librarian, both in the Reference and Instructional Services Department. 

These workshops are available at no charge and are open to University of Delaware faculty, staff and students. Seating is limited and registration is required. Registration is available online at
