Reviresco June run

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Events were held in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Demarest, N.J., Hermosa Beach, Calif., San Francisco, Berwyn, Pa., Reading, Pa., and Weston, Fla., entertaining more than 130 alumni, students and parents.

Freshmen and parents in San Francisco were invited as part of the 2011 UD Alumni Baseball Series to join fellow Blue Hens at a Giants game in AT&T Park.

At the send-off in Demarest , N.J., the main attraction was UDairy Creamery ice cream which was transported from Newark for the attendees. Anne Barretta, a 1983 graduate, a board member of the UD Alumni Association and Volunteer Admissions Support Team member, hosted the event, joining Richard and Teresa Greenberg in that role. Richard Greenberg is a 1977 UD graduate.

“This new student welcome event was so meaningful on many levels," Barretta said. "My daughter, Justine, is transferring to UD this fall and will be the fourth generation of my family to attend UD. In addition, it's so important to engage students in alumni affairs before they graduate, to celebrate our traditions and to foster a lifelong relationship with the University."

Barretta also brought copies of her Blue Hen yearbooks from 1980 through 1983, and several that belong to her father, Nicholas F. Giacoma, a 1943 UD graduate.

Barretta said, “It was wonderful watching parents, prospective students and alumni scooping UDairy Creamery ice cream and enjoying their sundaes as they got to know one another and shared UD stories and experiences.”
