Students can show their UD pride in a banner competition
Editor's note: The banner competition drop-off date has been extended to Friday, Nov. 4. Participants can still drop off their banners on the original date of Nov. 1, as well. This article has been modified with the new information.
4:43 p.m., Sept. 27, 2011--Calling all students: Whether you live off campus or in a residence hall, whether you're in an RSO, fraternity, sorority, athletic team or student group of any kind, you are eligible to participate in and win the Homecoming Spirit Banner Competition.
Get your materials and your banner and show your UD pride! Just follow the steps below:

Doctoral hooding
1. Pick up your banner at the Office of Alumni Relations (George Evans House, 5 West Main St.) anytime between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Oct. 10 through Oct. 31.
2. Decorate your Tyvek banner. Permanent markers, Design Master spray paints, artist's acrylics and latex paints all display well on Tyvek banners and should not smear.
3. Submit your banner on Tuesday, Nov. 1, or Friday, Nov. 4, from noon – 5 p.m. to the old Campus Shop space in the Trabant University Center (Room 110).
--Off-campus residents: Hang from your residence and return your banner to Alumni Relations (in George Evans House) by 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, in order to qualify for the prizes.
4. View your banners in Trabant from Thursday, Nov. 3, through Thursday, Nov. 10.
5. The banners will be moved to The Green by the University on Friday, Nov. 11.
6. Prizes will be awarded to the winners at 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, on The Green:
--Only banners displayed on The Green will be judged.
--Only judged banners are eligible to win prizes.
--The winning banner will be "crowned" as part of the UD Homecoming Royal Family.
Prizes
First prize: Your group will take the field during football pre-game and get special front row seats in the student section. Plus, you'll be announced on the PA system, have a live picture on the large display screen with your banner during pre-game and get a gift certificate to the UD Bookstore.
Second prize: Your group will be announced during pregame of the football game and receive a gift certificate to the UD Bookstore.
Third prize: Your group will be announced during pregame of the football game and receive a gift certificate to the UD Bookstore.
Plus, the top 10 banners will be hung in the stadium during the football game day.
Not only will the winners receive great prizes, but they also will be crowned as members of the UD Homecoming Royal Family. The Office of Alumni Relations will be announcing and crowning the contest winners at an event on The Green in front of Memorial Hall that will kick off at 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11. The UD Marching Band and the Deltones will perform and hot chocolate and light snacks will be served. The winners will be announced and all the winners will receive special crowns. The event is open to the entire UD community, students and alumni. You must be present to be crowned.
About the Office of Alumni Relations
The Office of Alumni Relations is the chief liaison between the University and the worldwide alumni body of more than 151,000 living alumni, which is represented by the UD Alumni Association.
