History of the site

The STAR Campus, formerly the Chrysler Assembly Plant in Newark, was purchased by the University in fall 2009.

Beginning in fall 2010, 1743 Holdings, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Delaware, oversaw the decommissioning and demolition of various buildings on the site, which totaled millions of square feet of demolition.

Last month, the University officially welcomed the STAR Campus’ first tenant --Bloom Energy. Joined by Gov. Jack Markell and other elected officials, the state, Bloom and UD broke ground at the STAR Campus for its new manufacturing plant.
