9:45 a.m., May 11, 2012--The University of Delaware Department of Art is hosting a unique exhibit featuring works by Chet Javorsky, who recently retired as a UD custodian and now has several drawings and paintings on display in Recitation Hall, the building where he worked.

The exhibit, "A Quarter Century, 1987-2012," can be seen through Friday, May 18, at Recitation Hall. It features retrospective paintings and drawings by Javorsky.

Reviresco June run

UD ROTC cadets will run from New York City to Miami this month to raise awareness about veterans' affairs.

Javorsky has created a number of works over the course of his lifetime, and the 38 pieces in the exhibit are only one-third of the total.

His exhibit was the result of the efforts of two UD graduate students, Caitlin Fennelly and Trey Andrade, who visited his studio and selected the works to display.

“[You need to] believe in yourself, and it takes a lot of work,” Javorsky said. “Trey and Caitlin pushed for me to have the show there. I’m really grateful to the candidates in the master's degree program. I’m also very grateful to Janet [Hethorn, department chair] and to all faculty for allowing me to put the show on. I hope everybody enjoys it.”

Javorksy retired at the end of March after working in Recitation Hall for 20 years.

“We miss [Chet] here in Recitation Hall,” said Hethorn. “He took great care of our spaces and really had an interest in what our students were doing. I’m so pleased that we are able to present an exhibition of his work.”
